In 1999, a Rottweiler named Brutus was brought in to the shelter with very bad dysplasia at the age of 1 year. Through all the tests, his disposition remained sweet & lovable. The local newspaper did a story because the shelter could not afford to treat him, yet didn't have the heart to put him to sleep. Thanks to that newspaper, the response from people was overwhelming and the Brutus Fund was formed. The fund has been used for all adoptable animals with various medical problems. Now, due to an overwhelming amount of sick animals, the Brutus Fund is in trouble. We have had 4 dogs with heartworm, 2 with Lyme's disease, 2 with Parvo, cats with URI and various other ailments
We need donations to the Brutus Fund to continue the treatment of animals others no longer can care for. Please give so the animals might live. Mail your contribution to HSW - Brutus Fund - POB 135, Walden, NY 12586
The Humane Society of Walden is a non-profit organization founded in 1974 by volunteers dedicated to helping stray and abandoned cats and dogs. Our animal shelter serves the communities of Montgomery, Walden, Maybrook, Pine Bush, Hamptonburg, Gardiner, Warwasing and Shawangunk.
Our Cat Palace presently has many beautiful felines of every shape, age, sex and color. These cats are all spayed/neutered and have all their shots. The Palace is a furnished room with plenty of nooks and crannies which provide lots of entertainment for these adoptable cats. They also have access to the outside in a completely enclosed pen with many lofty perches.
If you wish to adopt one of our shelter friends, you will be asked to fill out an adoption application and provide vet references. All animals leaving the shelter must be spayed or neutered before going home with you. We request a donation of $110 for dogs, and $100 for cats and kittens and puppies, ( Purebreds $200) to cover the cost of spaying/neutering, deworming, vaccinating and testing your new pet. Call the shelter or drop us an e-mail for further information. Also, check with the shelter daily as animal registry can change daily. Please allow one hour for the adoption process.
The shelter is open 7 days a week to the public and adoptors from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. 845-778-5115 - Please stop by and visit, you may fall in love with a companion for life!
Join the ranks of some wonderful people who volunteer their time and services to help make the residents of our shelter content until new loving homes are found. There is always something to do. Grooming. Bathing. Socializing. Walking. If you don't wish to work directly with the animals, there are other options that help the animals.
Assist in Fund Raising Events such as yard sales, penny socials, car show and more. Monetary donations in any denomination gladly accepted. Mail your donation to PO Box 135, Walden, NY 12586.
